8 show-stopping email examples

It’s that time again!

As you likely know, we’re pretty obsessed with great email marketing around these parts. So I’m always happy to collect and share the best of the best examples to hit my inbox with you wonderful folks.

Without further ado, here’s the crème de la crème from the past month or so. Soak them in, and hopefully, you’ll get inspired to use some of these brand's smart strategies in your own email marketing. Cheers!

1. DoorDash

This mailing from food delivery service DoorDash hits a ton of great notes: Clever copy, scrumptious imagery (did you know the human brain is programmed to respond to images of food, sex, and danger?), and a fun GIF above the fold. It’s a total triple threat.

2. Birchbox

We’ve featured Birchbox on the Emma blog before, and that’s because they consistently nail it with their email marketing. Consider this send, for instance: It’s incredibly timely, well tied to the “back-to-school” theme, and includes just enough animation to add a little interest to the design. We’re also a fan of the dual CTA’s: one above the fold to capture early clicks, and one at the very bottom for people who scroll through the whole thing.

3. Lyft

A nice dose of flattery never hurts – especially in this send from Lyft. Really, they’re just trying to get you to take a ride (aka, pay them more money). But the “rewards program” element and special offer that goes along with it makes the whole thing feel uber-exclusive.

4. Evernote

We love how Evernote approached including a lot of content in the body of this email. They kept the main story in the spotlight by including an eye-catching GIF in the header and giving it a big, bold CTA button. The rest is relegated to well-organized sections separated by headlines, which keeps everything easy to navigate.

5. Credit Karma

Let’s be real, here: A credit checking service isn’t what generally comes to mind when you think of sexy brands. But Credit Karma amps up the personality in their email sends with mailings like this one, which revolved around the Summer Olympics. The "Buzzfeed quiz results” feel of the content made something as droll as checking your credit score feel infinitely more appealing.

6. Airbnb

This smart send went out on a Tuesday, giving recipients just enough time to plan a quick weekend getaway. With targeted suggestions based on the subscriber’s location, it’s super personalized and just relevant enough to spur trips that may not have otherwise happened.

7. Ashley Furniture

Ashley has seriously amped up its email marketing recently, and this send is a perfect example. Here, they encourage subscribers to share their birthdays in order to get a special gift. It’s a fair trade and a great way to get more data about their audience – plus, the festive design is completely on-point.

8. The Knot

The Knot is a website all about wedding planning – so how do they stay relevant to subscribers after their wedding day has passed? Well, mailings like this one certainly do the trick. Using a date-based trigger, they send these tips (bonus points for a numbered list!) to newlyweds. It’s a fantastic example of serving up relevant content to your subscribers based on exactly where they are in their journey with your brand.
