If you’re a small business owner who relies on email newsletters and surveys to help market your product and get customer feedback, then you’re well aware of mobile devices’ powerful influence on your subscribers.
Expanding online surveys from the desktop to the smartphone not only makes your life easier as a business owner but more importantly, makes it easier for your customers to give you the insights you need.
From SurveyMonkey’s team of mobile experts, here are their top 3 tips for optimizing your surveys for mobile…
1. The Shorter Your Survey, the Better!
Attention spans for your survey takers may be limited as they’re probably on their devices in between activities (standing in line at the store or waiting for a friend). Keeping it short means including as few questions as possible. We recommend a maximum of five answer options per question. Keep both your question and answer options clear and concise.
2. Tapping Not Typing!
It’s best to stick to multiple-choice questions where people can answer with the tap of a finger or thumb because typing on a mobile device isn’t always easy. If you must include a textbox as an answer choice, keep it limited to a single line. This will greatly improve your survey completion rates.
3. Stay Screen-Size Savvy!
Screen sizes of mobile devices are obviously much smaller so make it easy for your respondents. Avoid using headers or titles since these will take up a lot of room on a mobile screen. You can also try breaking your survey up into one question per page to save people from having to scroll through. Just be aware that local cell reception can sometimes be spotty and could cause pages to load slower.
