Emma Billing Q&A

How is my monthly activity billed?

Emma's billing works proactively, meaning you pay at the beginning of the month for the emails you plan on sending that month. We offer a range of plans to suit your sending volume, and you can easily adjust them as your volume changes.

What are those monthly plans, exactly?

All accounts carry a $30 monthly minimum to cover activity, signups, storage, and service. Beyond that, here's the pricing breakdown:

Volume Price Per-email rate
1,000 emails a month $30 $0.03
2,500 emails a month $45 $0.018
5,000 emails a month $70 $0.014
7,500 emails a month $100 $0.013
10,000 emails a month $125 $0.0125
17,500 emails a month $170 $0.0097
25,000 emails a month $210 $0.0084
37,500 emails a month $280 $0.0075
50,000 emails a month $350 $0.007
75,000 emails a month $480 $0.0064
100,000 emails a month $600 $0.006

What payment methods do you offer?

We strongly suggest that all customers keep a credit card on file for convenient, paper-free transactions. In extenuating circumstances, we can accept payment by check.

What happens if I send more than my allotted plan?

You're charged your plan's per-email rate for each email sent over your allotted number of emails. For example, if you sent 1200 emails at the 1000 email plan, the 200 additional emails would be figured at the per-email rate for your plan (in this case $30 divided by 1000 breaks down to $.03 per email). The 200 extra emails at the $.03 rate would bring your overage total to $6. You'll see any overage costs for a particular month line-itemed on the next month's invoice, and you can see a plan-by-plan breakdown in the pricing chart.

How many emails have I sent this month? What about last July?

In the upper right-hand corner of your pro account, you'll see a link to My Account. Here, you'll be able to see your current and previous sending totals.

Am I charged for months in which I don't send mail?

Yes, all accounts carry a $30 monthly minimum to cover activity, the collection of new signups, data storage and service. We recommend keeping in touch with your audience on a monthly basis, but if you choose not to send mail, you'll still be charged the flat rate for the plan that you're on. If you are on a higher plan and anticipate that you won't be sending mail next month, we advise downgrading to the $30 plan before the first of the month. (If you're on the $30 plan already, you don't need to make any changes.)

When I upgrade in the middle of the month, what happens?

If it's halfway through the month and you've already exceeded the volume of emails in the plan you've paid for, you have the ability to upgrade your plan immediately. In your My Account area, just choose a new plan by editing the Your Plan section on the Billing section. If you have a credit card on file with us, you'll see the charge right away. Otherwise, you'll see the charge on next month's invoice.

What if I want my upgrade to start at the beginning of the next month instead of this one?

Not a problem. Edit the Your Plan section on the My Account page and select a new plan. Indicate that you'd like the upgrade to start at the beginning of the next month, then hit save. You're all set for next month!

Can I upgrade more than once in the same month?

For each upgrade, Emma will automatically charge the difference between your original plan and the new one. So you can upgrade as many times as you'd like, or you can cancel an upgrade altogether.

Can I downgrade my plan?

Sure thing. Just like upgrading at the beginning of the next month, you can "schedule" a downgrade in plans. While you're editing the Your Plan section, select your new, lower plan and choose the option for the plan to take effect next month.

I meant to upgrade my plan last month, but I forgot. Can you help?

While managing your account's volume is an important part of using Emma, we know that everybody occasionally forgets something, whether it's lunch or Mom's birthday or plan upgrades. So let us know if you didn't upgrade your plan to match your increase in volume. One time per account, we'll be able to reissue your invoice at a better plan.

I didn't get my invoice. What to do?

When you click the My Account link, you'll find a copy of your invoice that you can print or pay online. To ensure our billing emails arrive safely, take a moment to add billing@myemma.com to your address book or safe sender list.

At this time, we're not able to mail paper invoices. However, we're happy to send an email your way if you're unable to access your invoices online.
